The Gevangenpoort is a unique medieval gatehouse in the center of The Hague. The museum was once one of the three gates to the castle of the Counts of Holland, where the Binnenhof is now. Only the gate and the courthouse can be seen from the street, but behind this is a whole cell complex. The Gevangenpoort had cells for the poor and rich people as political prisoners, such as Cornelis de Witt. There is also a collection of criminal tools displayed in the various cells and rooms.
